Cataclysm Represents Blizzard’s Latest Achievement in Game Development

On December 7, fans of Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft will be able to enjoy the company’s newest marvel in game development, as World of Warcraft Cataclysm hits stores. The game took more than two years to develop and is the the third installment of the franchise, which, paired with the Starcraft franchise, has made Blizzard one of the most successful game software development organizations in the world.

In conjunction with the game’s release, a number of video game retailers have announced release parties so gamers can see the new world and gameplay. Furthermore, Blizzard has announced a party in the UK. On December 6, fans of WoW can head to Leicester Square in Sound in the UK “for a night of fun and fancy dress until the game goes on sale at midnight,” according to . The news provider also noted Blizzard is planning to host similar events in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands and Taiwan.

“After two years of development, we’re excited to now be just two weeks away from releasing our best World of Warcraft expansion yet,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. “Cataclysm will add a huge amount of new content to the game and change the face of Azeroth forever, and we can’t wait to celebrate this launch with players around the world.”

The game includes similar settings, but the land has been devastated by the ongoing battles. Furthermore, there have been additional races added to the game, so users can play as goblins and worgens on top of the creatures available in the previous installments of the series. Blizzard expects the game to perform with minimal interference and issues, as extensive bug tracking enabled it to add a strong title to the franchise seamlessly. However, the company does expect some issues in the early stages. Beta testers are still monitoring the game to address any issues that arise in the first few months.

“Cataclysm includes the best content created for World of Warcraft. It’s not just an expansion, but a recreation of the much original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out,” said Morhaime. “With the help of our beta testers, we’re putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months.”
