Another feature that still remains the same is their 5 MP camera. Their cameras come with LED flash and autofocus. Dimensions are relatively the same. The original version is 119 mm high, 60 mm wide, and 11.9 mm thick. The S version is 115 mm high, 59.8 mm wide, and 11.6 mm thick. Lastly, they share similar 1 GHz single-core processors. The Desire is powered by a 1 GHz Scorpion processor Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon chipset. The HTC Desire S is powered by a 1 GHz Scorpion processor Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon chipset. The only difference is in their GPU. The predecessor comes with an integrated Adreno 200 GPU. The successor comes with an integrated Adreno 205 GPU. This delivers more intense graphics compared to the original version.

The difference can be seen in the Android OS version the handsets come pre-installed with. The Desire comes pre-installed with the Android 2.1 version the ?�clair. Now, it can be upgraded to the 2.2 version the Froyo. The HTC Desire S comes pre-installed with the latest Gingerbread version. With the Desire, you would have to upgrade to the Froyo version to enjoy 720p videos at 30 frames per second. The S version comes with this feature straight out of the box thanks to Gingerbread.
