Industry in Utah Keeps Growing

The state of Utah has a population of around two million seven hundred thousand. The Wasatch Mountain range runs right through it, but not many people know much about the state. When many people think about the state the only things that come to mind are the Mormon Church and the great skiing. Despite that, though, many large and powerful companies are finding it an ideal place to set up their operations.

For many years now, there has been a part of California that, due to the number of technological companies, has been called Silicon Valley. In that same way, Utah could be referred to as the Silicon Slopes. Just looking at a map of the companies in the area will show you how the name applies to the mountainous area that is hosting all these businesses.

There are a number of well-established corporations that call the state home. One of the more famous is Novell, an industry leader that has more than 100 offices throughout the world. The company has been around for a long time but still continues to expand the business. The software they produce and the patents they own have been extremely beneficial to countless businesses.

Another industry giant located there is Omniture. This company began providing software for online optimization of websites. Their programs allow companies to track visitors to a website and begin to understand how customers view and use their site. With that kind of knowledge, anyone can start to optimize their site and improve their business.

When we think of companies in Utah we have to think about all of the industries connected to the computer world. Microsoft, Apple, Hewett Packard and others have either found a welcome home in Utah, or are planning on setting up an important branch there soon.

No discussion about industry in Utah would be complete without mentioning the effect of tourism on the Utah economy. Utah has some of the greatest ski slopes in the country, and because of the amazing scenery, hikers and campers can find endless enjoyment out there. There are also some great, small towns where you can rent some great lodges or condos to make the stay more enjoyable.

If you’re looking for a place to start or raise a family, Utah is a great choice. The crime rate is relatively low, and the opportunities for employment – with so many new companies setting up offices there – is pretty good. There is a lot of industry, tourism and educational opportunities in the area, and, when you want to go back home, the Salt Lake City airport offers a lot of convenience. Utah offers a lot of opportunities for companies both large and small, and more and more companies are going to be part of this new business environment.
